Britney Spears has been targeted by online hackers - who announced she had died on her Twitter page.

The singer's official page on the social networking site had a message telling her two million followers she had passed away.

Representatives for Spears immediately had the page shut down as the site's executives, tried to discover how the page had been hacked into.

Spears' team then sent out a statement that read: "Britney's Twitter was just hacked. The last message is obviously not true. She is fine and dandy spending a quiet day at home relaxing."

It is the second time Spears' Twitter page had been attacked - hackers posted a series of adult-only messages on her page in January.
