Jackson sold 8,286,000 album in 2009 and nearly ever one minus a few thousand after his death according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Before Jackson died, he had sold around 10,000 albums in 2009.

6 days after his death he had sold 422,000 units. A week later another 800,000 sold. Then by July 12, more than one million units had sold in one single week.

Two and a half weeks after the legend died, 2.3 million albums were purchased by fans and the albums kept selling right through to the end of 2009 when the total tally numbered 8,286,000 units sold.
