Prince orders limousine to drive him 25 metres as he delights at Hop Farm

Prince ordered a limousine to drive him 25 metres from his dressing room to the stage at the Hop Farm Festival.
Prince ordered a limousine to drive him 25 metres from his dressing room to the stage at the Hop Farm Festival.

The legendary 'Purple Rain' singer closed the festival in Kent, southern England, last night (03.07.11) - his first UK show in four years - but issued a list of demands to organisers including:

The dressing room reportedly had to be made to such specific standards it had to be be re-assembled three times until it was perfect then painted purple and decorated with purple furniture.

On stage the 'Little Red Corvette' star pulled out all the stops for a hit filled two and a half hour set, including tracks such as ' Kiss', 'Controversy' and 'Raspberry Beret' from his own back catalogue, as well as songs written for other people, including 'Nothing Compares 2 U', which was a hit for Sinead O' Connor.

After performing the track with a backing singer Prince said: "I didn't write that song. That's Sinead O'Connor's song."

As a few people started to boo, he smiled and added: "Aww, come on. I bought me a house with that song!"

Prince also paid tribute to Michael Jackson, with a version of his track 'Don't Stop 'til you get Enough ' and was joined onstage by Sly and the Family Stone's Larry Graham for a medley of his band's hits.

Prince's set ran to two and half hours, although he said he would have preferred to play for longer, telling the crowd: "I wish there wasn't no such thing as a curfew. Parties are supposed to go on 'til everyone's asleep."

The main section of the set finished with 'Purple Rain' before Prince returned to the stage for an encore which included 'If I Was Your Girlfriend' and 'Baby, I'm A Star'.
